Barbara Heck

RUCKLE BARBARA (Heck) b. Bastian Ruckle (Sebastian), as well Margaret Embury, daughter of Bastian Ruckle (Republic of Ireland) married Paul Heck (1760 in Ireland). They had seven kids, and four survived childhood.

Normally the subject of a biography has been an active participant in important events or has enunciated distinctive ideas or proposals which are documented in document format. Barbara Heck has left no documents or letters. Her date of marriage, for example, is unsupported by evidence. In the majority of her adult life it is not possible to find evidence from the primary sources which can be used to determine her intentions and actions. But she's become a hero in the early period of Methodism in North America. It is the task of the biographer to describe the legend that she has created in this instance, and then to attempt to depict the real person who was enshrined in.

Abel Stevens, a Methodist historian wrote this in 1866. Barbara Heck's humble name now ranks first on the list of women who have contributed significantly to the ecclesiastical world in New World history. This is because of the rise of Methodism in and around the United States. In order to understand the significance of her name, it is important that you examine the lengthy history of the movement with which she will always be associated. Barbara Heck was involved fortuitously in the inception of Methodism in the United States and Canada and her reputation is built in the natural tendency of a highly successful movement or institution to celebrate its origins so that it can strengthen its traditionalism and connection to its past.
